Flap discs designed for aluminum

September 5, 2019 - Weldcote, a division of Zika Group, offers its line of ALU-PRIME premium flap discs for applications on aluminum, other nonferrous metals and blending stainless steel.

Offering a high value-to-price performance, Weldcote’s ALU-PRIME flap disc design allows the discs to work longer and more effectively before needing to be changed out. A second-tier calcium stearate reduces material buildup between grains, helping to prevent the aluminum from loading. The flap discs also allow the end user to keep the work material cooler.

Weldcote’s ALU-PRIME premium flap discs are manufactured of high-quality aluminum grain available with grits of 36 and 60 and feature a tough, heat-treated, polyester backing. The ALU-PRIME flap discs are offered in 4 1/2 in., 5 in. and 7 in. sizes, in a compressed profile design that was developed to increase product life and reduce inventory costs for end users.

“Our proprietary flap disc design, combined with our innovative manufacturing equipment, gives our ALU-PRIME flap disc longer life at a great value,” said Joe O’Mera, CEO of Weldcote. “It’s constructed with calcium stearate to reduce material buildup and delay material loading."

Flap discs for aggressive grinding applications

February 21, 2019 - Weldcote Metals, Kings Mountain, North Carolina, a division of Zika Group, introduced its line of C-PRIME and C-PRIME PLUS ceramic flap discs.

Weldcote’s C-PRIME flap discs feature strong polyester backing for aggressive grinding applications that do not require excessive flexibility. The C-PRIME PLUS flap discs feature an industry-first, poly-cotton backing with high-quality ceramic grain, which provides excellent stretch and flexibility, while adding enough strength to maximize the aggressive cutting points of ceramic grain.

The ceramic grains in Weldcote’s line of flap discs contain a grinding aid for cooler running temperatures, which reduces the risk of discoloration and heat-induced deformations of the final workpiece. These ceramic grains are also self-sharpening, which allow them to be used for longer periods of time than similar flap discs on the market. The C-PRIME flap discs are available in 4 1/2 in. and 7 in. sizes, and the C-PRIME PLUS flap discs are available in 4 1/2 in., 5 in. and 6 in. sizes.

“The C-PRIME PLUS flap discs feature a proprietary compressed design that gives the user a tough edge, increased performance and 50 to 60 percent higher stock removal rates over standard ceramic flap discs,” said Joe O’Mera, CEO of Weldcote. “These increased removal rates can provide significant savings and increased productivity for our customers in the field.”

Weldcote discs augmented with exclusive imports

December 12, 2018 -  Weldcote Metals, a division of Zika Group, announced at the FABTECH Show in Atlanta the availability of a comprehensive line of metalworking abrasives, many of which will be made in the U.S. at Weldcote’s new, state-of-the-art, production facility in Niles, Ill. The entire line includes more than 900 new SKUs.

Leading the new offering is a line of flap discs, all made in the U.S. With multiple bonding and backing systems, backing plates and design shapes, the discs will handle a wide variety of applications. The flap disc materials, formulated for a wide variety of metals, include ceramic (C-Prime and C-Prime Plus), zirconia (Z-Prime and Z-Solid), aluminum oxide (A-Prime) and aluminum (ALU-Prime).

Rounding out the new offering is U.S.-made quick change discs, as well as Korner flap discs, resin fibre discs and flap wheels. High-quality, resin-bonded abrasives are now available in the U.S. due to an exclusive relationship with a renowned Italian abrasives manufacturer (PRIME brand), as well as a partnership with a well-known Chinese supplier (SOLID brand). Finally, the Weldcote abrasive program also covers a full line of cutting wheels (branded as SLITTER), Notch pipeline wheels and grinding wheels.

“Our new product team has over 90 years of experience in the abrasives industry,” said Joe O’Mera, CEO of Weldcote. “It was only natural for us to take that experience and use it to create an abrasive line that increased performance and functionality for users. The fact that we were able to make the majority of the line right here in the U.S. is a huge bonus.”

October 24, 2018 -  Weldcote Metals Inc., Kings Mountain, North Carolina, a division of Zika Group, announces the availability of two lines of auto darkening welding helmets: Ultraview™ and Klearview™ in both standard and programmable styles.

The two welding helmet lines both have four arc sensors, a near instant (0.1 to 0.9 second) switching time, a solar cell with battery backup and true color filter optics. Both also feature an industry-leading, three-year warranty.

Weldcote’s Ultraview helmet line features an improved viewing area of 3.94 in. by 3.28 in., a light shade of three for grinding mode and dark shade setting of 5-9 as well as 9-13. The Klearview helmet line offers a 3.94 in. by 2.36 in. view area, a light shade of four for grinding mode, and a 9-13 dark shade setting.

Both lines come in a standard model and “Plus” programmable model. The programmable upgrade provides welders with three memory settings, allowing for better customization and personalization. Weldcote also offers replacement headgear, programmable and standard lens cartridges, lithium batteries and interchangeable inside or outside lens covers.

“With this line expansion, we can now offer welders a full line of choices, from entry level for new welders coming into the career, to experienced welders who know their preferred work settings and want a safety helmet that they can make their own,” said Joe O’Mera, CEO of Weldcote Metals. “This product launch is one of several initiatives that positions Weldcote as a high-quality, one-stop shop solution that helps manufacturers do their jobs better, easier and faster.”

Weldcote Metals was founded by Bill Roland, founding CEO and current president, and John Pandorf, co-founder and CFO, in 2006. Earlier this year, the company announced Zika Group and O’Mera as additional ownership, along with O’Mera being named CEO.
